Vintage Louis Vuitton trunk makes five times estimate at Aylsham auction

The total was more than five times the original estimate.
The brown, leather-bound, 3ft-long trunk – complete with Louis Vuitton insignia – was one of nearly 1,500 lots on offer at Keys Fine Art Auctioneers’ latest two-day antique sale.
It was given an auction room estimate to sell for between £500-£700, but fierce bidding culminated in its purchase by an Essex buyer for £3,600.
The Louis Vuitton trunk is from the early 20th century, when ocean travel increased and demand for this kind of luggage was high.
“But a hundred years ago it was already a desirable label, and travelling with Louis Vuitton luggage was a sign of wealth and taste.”
The Paris-based company made and supplied trunks and suitcases to the landed gentry and nobility of Europe.
